This position, located at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System, Facilities Management Service, serves to perform a variety of carpentry and related construction trades, functions, alteration and repair of buildings and structures.
Duties
Major duties of this position include but are not limited to....
Applies the full range of carpentry skills and techniques to remove, disassemble, repair, replace, install and maintain various building structural components to accomplish repairs, alterations, additions and occasionally new construction
Knowledgeable of basic mathematics and skilled in performing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Skilled in the use of common carpenter's rule/square in terms of measuring material to the nearest 1/32 of an inch
Selects proper glues, epoxies, bonding agents and other materials required in a hospital setting
Skilled in accurately measuring, cutting, and fitting wood, dry wall, window glass, light gauge metals, etc., necessary to repair items according to appropriate trade practices
Skilled in writing information on work orders, purchase order requests and other shop records. Operates motor vehicles (typically under 1 ton) to commute to job sites and to carry equipment, supplies, and tools for assigned projects
Reviews work orders to determine problem and scope of work required; assists supervisor with planning and laying out the work, selecting appropriate tools, supplies, parts and materials to accomplish work; reviewing and interpreting drawings, blueprints and manuals as required to determine facility/system layout and location of specific structures and fixtures

Physical Requirements: The work is performed in a shop atmosphere that is frequently hot, dusty, dirty, and noisy. Additionally, the incumbent may be required to work outdoors in inclement weather. Working conditions are not always favorable. Some work is performed in a shop area with good lighting, temperature control and ventilation, but is often necessary for work to be performed in abnormally hot, cold, west and/or poorly ventilated locations, in poorly lighted conditions, in high places where ladders and scaffolds must be used, etc.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
