This position, located at the Oklahoma City VA HCS, performs a variety of carpentry and related construction trades functions, alteration, and repairs of buildings and structures. Incumbent is assigned to the Interior Design Team, Facilities Management Service.

Duties

Major duties of this position include but are not limited to... Selects proper glues, epoxies, bonding agents and other materials required in a hospital setting Operates Motor Vehicles (typically under 1 ton) as an ancillary responsibility to commute to job sites and to carry equipment, supplies, and tools for assigned projects Reviews work orders to determine problem and scope of work required Assists the supervisor with planning and laying out the work, selecting appropriate tools, supplies, parts and materials to accomplish work Reviews and interprets drawings, blueprints and manuals as required to determine facility/system layout and location of specific structures and fixtures and specifications Assists supervisor with making preventive maintenance inspections to determine safety hazards, damage and repair requirements Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30am-3:00pm Position Description Title/PD#: Carpenter/PD11985A Physical Requirements: Work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, climbing, kneeling, and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions. Occasionally, incumbent may be required to lift and carry items that weigh up to 50 lbs. Incumbent is employed on the Interior Design Team of the Projects Section of Engineering Service at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System and is required to work in the service constructing, modifying and or repairing new and existing structures. Incumbent can interpret complex instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building codes.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
