About the Position: This position is located at the Brooke Army Medical Center, in JBSA at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Department of Surgery, Ophthamology Services This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Perform the full range of receptionist, recordkeeping and miscellaneous clerical duties within the ambulatory setting. Enter, manipulate and/or retrieve information and data from automated systems, such as, Composite Health Care System (CHCS), the Ambulatory Data System (ADS), the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), etc. Complete request forms, manually or automated, for individual patient orders, blood work and other requests. Maintain and enter patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice. Schedule appropriate patient appointments manually and/or in CHCS. Receive patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically. Maintain all patients' records, both electronic and paper, according to regulation. Responsible for the clerical duties inherent to the in processing (reception), care and out processing (transition) of outpatients, families/caregivers and guests.

  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience and/ or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing patient check-in and/or check-out, scheduling appointments, answering phone calls and routing calls to appropriate entity, maintaining patient records electronic and paper, using office automation systems to produce reports and correspondence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Additional Minimum Qualifications Typing Proficiency Requirement: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
