THIS IS AN AIR FORCE NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TITLE 32 ELECTRONIC INTEGRATED SYSTEMS MECHANIC (191 MXS), Position Description Number D2240P01 and is part of the MI 127 Wing, Michigan Air National Guard.

Duties

***THIS IS AN AIR NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION*** This position works within an Air National Guard Aviation Wing, Maintenance Group, Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Avionics Element, Avionics Shop, Communications/Navigation/ECM, or Guidance and Control shop. It is an Air National dual status technician position that requires military membership, compatible military skill assignment and classification. The primary purpose of this position is to install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, align, calibrate, and rebuild multi-system avionics complexes consisting of multiple completely integrated electronic avionics systems where the complex accomplishes a number of major functions. The worker in this career field must demonstrate the ability to perform on- or off-equipment maintenance on one or more complete electronic integrated systems associated with the assigned aircraft and/or maintenance on automatic flight control systems, instrument systems, inertial and radar navigation systems. MAJOR DUTIES: 1. Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on one or more multi-complex electronic integrated systems. Completes operational checks, inspections, tests, trouble shooting, removal and replacement of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) which are linked with integrated systems and LRUs which are independent or associated with nonintegrated systems. Isolates unusual malfunctions using technical orders, schematics, wiring diagrams, tools, and test equipment including automatic test equipment and Flight Line Test Systems (FLTS). Solves complex problems by analyzing installation, circuitry, and operating characteristics of the systems. Adjusts and aligns system sensors, transmitters, amplifiers, power supplies, display devices, controls, transponders, actuators, servos, computers and other related components. 2. Reviews and analyzes maintenance data; determines if criteria are sufficient to provide adequate test, troubleshooting and repair procedures; devises and recommends tests, procedural changes, or data corrections. Aligns, adjusts, and performs final calibrations on integrated systems to determine successful repairs. Analyzes equipment failure and malfunctions and suggests changes to improve operation. Monitors the operation of complex, interrelated systems, analyzes operating trends, proposes preventative maintenance down time to assure continued operating capability, and recommends components for overhaul or engineering evaluation for disposal. 3.Troubleshoots operational malfunctions and analyzes system performance utilizing aircrew debrief data, Technical Orders, schematic and wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, data analysis, common and system-specific test equipment and built in system tests. Performs on and off-equipment maintenance on systems such as automatic flight control, instruments, communication, navigation, and inertial navigation. Coordinates back shop bench check (if applicable, completes testing, repair, inspection, modification, programming, reprogramming, mating, adjusting, alignment, and analyzing of LRUs and shop replaceable units (SRUs). 4. Recommends methods to improve equipment performance, technical data, and maintenance procedures by reporting hardware and software malfunctions, initiates material deficiency reports both on equipment and in technical data and assists in design changes as necessary. Conducts aircrew debriefing to determine the nature of system malfunctions. Documents all discrepancies and maintenance actions performed by inputting information into the electronic records information systems (i.e.: CAMS, IMDS, GO-81, REMIS). Recommends hardware and software changes. 5. May upload and download chaff/flare dispensers. This hazardous task may involve the inspection, storage and handling of explosive devices; to include flares, chaff, impulse cartridges and similar items. Conducts on-the-job training on assigned systems and related support equipment and tasks to include classroom instruction as necessary. Provides training to lower graded personnel concerned with the repair of integrated avionics systems. Provides training to newly assigned personnel regardless of grade level. 6. May be required to perform additional duties such as structural firefighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, serve as a security guard, remove snow, load and handle munitions, launch/recover and service aircraft, operate heavy equipment, maintain facilities and equipment, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. Qualifications

Military Grades: E1 - E5 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Minimum Time Required - 18 Months Must have competencies in performing electronic integrated systems work activities on Army National Guard helicopters such as, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, calibrating, aligning, and maintaining these systems. Skilled in performing operational checks, inspections, tests, and troubleshooting on electronic integrated systems composed of a number of sensor subsystems: Integrated Vehicle Health Management System (IVHMS), the Common Missile Warning System (CMWS), the Improved Countermeasure Dispenser System (ICMD), the Night Vision Goggle System (NVG), the ARNG Data Subsystem, the Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) and Doppler/GPS Navigation System (DGNS), Command Instrument Set (CIS); a logic subsystem-- Multiplex Data Bus System (MUX), the Multiplex Remote Terminal Units (MRTU), Data Link Terminal Units (DLTU), and Digital Automatic Flight Control System (DAFCS); and actuating subsystems--Digital Automatic Stabilization System (DASS), which includes the Stability Augmentation System (SAS) and Command Augmentation System (CAS) and Hover Augmentation System (HAS). Skilled in conducting operational checks, inspections, tests and troubleshooting of Line Replaceable Units (LRU). Experienced in isolating unusual malfunctions using technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, tools and test equipment including automatic test equipment. Competent in identifying and solving problems system concerns by analyzing installation, circuitry, and operating characteristics of these systems. Skilled in adjusting and aligning sensors, transmitters, amplifiers, power supplies, display devices, controls, actuators, servos, computers and other related components. Have technical expertise in removing faulty LRUs for shop repair. Skilled and knowledgeable in the installation of serviceable components into the aircraft and in performing total systems alignments, in accordance with existing technical manuals and directives. Accomplished in following technical manual compliance and modification of components and systems; and, and skilled in completing systems checks for proper operations. Skilled in maintaining, modifying, calibrating and inspecting a wide variety of user tests, measurements, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). Skilled in completing bench checks, testing, repairs, inspections, modifications, programming, reprogramming, mating, adjusting, alignments, and analyzing of LRUs and shop replaceable units. Experienced in using a variety of test equipment such as, automatic test equipment (ATE), oscilloscopes, DTA computer, multimeters, power-meters, and special purpose bench test sets. Competent to test and troubleshoot solid state electronic assemblies and subassemblies such as, circuit cards, modules, rate gyros, electronic control amplifiers, electro-mechanical assemblies, random access memories, programmable read-only memories and various integrated circuits. Capable to certify the operational integrity of various night vision systems, and electrooptical components. Skilled in recognizing methods to improve equipment performance, technical data, and maintenance procedures by reporting hardware and software malfunctions, initiates material deficiency reports both on equipment and in technical data. Experienced in debriefing aircrews to determine the nature of system malfunctions, then documents all maintenance performed and records information related to the system, LRU's, or shop repairable units on both aircraft and historical records. Should have experiences as a flight crew member for the purpose of diagnosing and recording malfunctions, or otherwise determining maintenance and repair requirements. Experienced in providing instructional training to other mechanics in regard to the repair of computer controlled automatic test equipment, line replaceable units and aircraft integrated systems. Experiences included participation in various types of readiness evaluations such as, Operational Readiness Evaluations (ORE), Command Logistics Readiness Inspections (CLRT-X), and Aviation Resource Management Surveys. May have experiences in performing additional duties such as, structural firefighting, aircraft handling, heavy equipment operation, and maintenance of facilities and equipment, or served as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.
