THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TITLE 5 MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (MI 127 CES), Position Description Number 9T212 and is part of the MI 127 Wing, National Guard.

Duties

*** THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. *** The primary purpose of this position is: To exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in accomplishing trades and labor work of the Structural Section, which is responsible for accomplishing minor construction, maintenance, repair and modification of all buildings and structures, alarms (fire, security, utilities), sheet metal and welding for Base Civil Engineering. The organizational location of this position is: 127th Fighter Wing. Civil Engineering Branch, Structural Section. Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan. MAJOR DUTIES: 1.Performs work planning responsibilities. Plans on a weekly or monthly basis the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials in an organizational segment or group. Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher-level supervisors. Coordinates work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other supervisors. Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. 2. Performs work direction responsibilities. Assigns work to individuals and provides technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes. Investigates work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes. Implements corrective actions within designated authority to resolve work problems. Recommends solutions to staffing problems, engineering requirements, and work operations directed by other supervisors. Reports possible or actual work delays to superiors. 3. Performs administration responsibilities. Participates with employees in the development of performance plans. Advises employees in advance of performance expectations and explains new work techniques, as required. Provides proper guidance and direction, continuous feedback on strengths and weaknesses. Appraises subordinate workers' performance in accordance with regulations. Rewards or uses corrective action, as needed, in performance management. Explains classification determinations to subordinate employees. Restructures positions when necessary to achieve the most effective and economical utilization of personnel. Plans and establishes overall leave schedule. Determines that leave schedule does not conflict with mission requirements. 4. Submits reports in accordance with reporting directives. Ensures safety equipment and protective clothing/gear are worn when mandated by regulations. Reports any condition that might pose a hazard to safety or health to the appropriate authority as soon as possible after detection. 6. Requirements

Qualifications

Experience or training that has provided the knowledge of trade practices, tools, and related equipment used in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related fixtures and utilities. Specialized Experience: Minimum Time Required - 36 Months Experience or training in complex trade practices in the maintenance and repair of facilities and grounds. Experience which required selecting type and amount of materials needed to maintain and repair facilities. Experience using measuring equipment and various portable power tools in work which required close tolerances. Experience or training in performing visual examinations and operational tests to determine the need for, and the performance of, repair work. Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
