This position serves as a Clinical Research Coordinator located at Tennessee Valley Healthcare System VA Medical Center Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PMRS) in Nashville, TN. The incumbent is a Clinical Research Coordinator whose purpose it is to support research into pain treatment as a part of the VA Pain Management, Opioid Safety, and PDMP (PMOP) program to improve the lives of Veterans with pain. The position reports to the Assistant Chief of PMRS.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but not limited to the following. Design, Conduct, and Report Research Activities 35% Analyzes and coordinates the work activities of the research team using administrative principles, flowcharting, workflow analysis to complete research study objectives. Continually identifies areas for quality improvement within the research team's activities and revises operating procedures to assure quality and human subjects protection. Sets, tracks, and analyzes qualitative and quantitative project goals and milestones and modifies procedures appropriately to reach these targets. Recruits Candidates for Research Studies 25% Develops, applies, and evaluates screening processes to assess candidates for clinical studies. Uses mature judgment, discretion, and understanding of research ethics and specific protocol requirements to discuss questions and concerns with potential and current research participants. Maintenance Research Compliance 20% Analyzes and interprets policies, procedures, and regulations governing human subjects' research to incorporate into the study protocol and procedures. Proficiently and compliantly maneuvers through research ethics and compliance approval processes; ensures compliance of study personnel with training and procedures. Data Management and Analysis 20% Analyzes research study protocols to develop appropriate quantitative and qualitative data collection tools. Designs and maintains databases for collection of, analysis of, and reporting of research data. Performs data quality assurance reviews for the entire research team. To apply for this position, you must have the following qualifications: EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Qualifying specialized includes analyzing and coordinating the work activities of the human research team using administrative principles, flowcharting, workflow analysis to complete research study objectives; screening candidates for clinical studies: interpreting policies, procedures, and regulations governing human subjects' research. -OR- EDUCATION: Successfully completed a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. -OR- Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education (beyond 18 semester hours) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Information AssuranceProject ManagementResearchStrategic Thinking IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: In the course of the work, the employee will need to be: sitting, bending, turning, walking, standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, and stooping. S/he will need to reach, grasp, and handle objects for the study. S/he will need have reading/close-up work, graphing, and calibration abilities.
