This position is located at a Department of Veterans Affairs facility. The employee performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities. The duties are performed within at least two trades.
Duties
Repair a wide variety of structural items such as building frames, rafters, walls, staircases, doors and window frames.
Install new roofs, including metal flushing gutters and other roofing accessories.
Paint or refinish furniture such as desks, cabinets, chairs, operating rooms and laundry equipment.
Install new utility, supply and disposal systems.
Plan and lay out the installation and modification of various systems and equipment.
Apply knowledge of wood and wood substitute material and construction techniques.
Operates and use a variety of tools by setting-up, adjusting, and maintaining tools to meet required specifications.
Interprets blueprints, sketches, manufacturers' specifications, and technical manuals, and be knowledgeable in shop math and standard formulas.
Determines the methods, techniques, and materials for paint removal, and removes existing finishes using heat guns and scrapers.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Heavy lifting (45 pounds and over), straight pulling (1 hour), pulling hand over hand (1 hour), pushing (2 hours), reaching over shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (8 hours), standing (8 hours), crawling (1 hour), kneeling (4 hours), repeated bending (4 hours), climbing (legs only/4 hours), climbing (use of legs and arms), both legs required, operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, depth perception, and hearing (aid may be permitted). The work is performed inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather. The work area may be dirty, wet, dusty, and greasy. Incumbent is subject to cuts, abrasions, burns, broken bones, electrical shock, infections, bites, exposure to inhalation of harmful chemical fumes, irritation of eyes, etc. The incumbent may wear protective clothing.
