The position is located at the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS). The primary purpose of the position is to perform preventative maintenance, repairs, installations, tests, and safety inspections on mechanical equipment, some of which may have electronic and/or battery components.
Duties
**This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until January 22, 2024 or until there is no longer a need. The Initial cut-off date will be 11/3/2023, with subsequent cut-off dates every every 8 days until the position is filled or no longer needed.**
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Inspects, maintains, installs, lubricates, sharpens, tests and repairs items such as standard and automatic doors, pneumatic tubes systems, motors, pumps, engines, tanks, air compressors, medical air, vacuum systems, and etc.
Fabricates replacement parts for equipment and special projects.
Cuts and Welds various shaped metals to make or repair items such as braces, hangers, etc. for equipment and for use by craftsmen for installations.
Assists other craftsmen in and during their absence or as specifically assigned to perform maintenance or repairs on other equipment and systems as directed by supervisor.
Examines equipment and appliances to determine the economical feasibility of repair versus replacement and makes recommendations to supervisor.
Drafts purchase requests for parts, tools and equipment.
Completes work orders and preventative maintenance timely.
Closes work orders and reports time and materials used on various jobs in accordance with the requirements of the electronic work order system.
Performs other duties as well

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent performs tasks normally requiring moderate physical exertion, including frequent medium lifting of up to 40 pounds, pushing, pulling, carrying, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, and negotiation confined spaces, sub-basements, and interstitial spaces. Incumbent frequently works off high ladders, scaffolds, and platforms. Heavy lifting over 40 pounds and strenuous exertion is occasionally performed. The incumbent must regularly lift and align parts requiring considerable strength and agility from awkward positions. The incumbent is standing or walking most of the time and must be in good overall physical condition.
