This position is located in the Agricultural Genetic Resources Preservation Research Unit, Agricultural Research Service, Plains Area, in Fort Collins, CO.
In this position, you will enter data into the database Animal-GRIN, prepare data pedigree and genomic data for analysis, assist in cryopreserving germplasm samples, and post-thaw analysis of germplasm.
This is a term, time-limited appointment with an initial duration no less than 13 months and can be extended up to a total of 4 years.
Duties
Collects animal data.
Maintains written and electronic records and locates and compiles data.
Provide genetic security and increase genetic understanding of livestock.
Assists with germplasm sample preparation for cryopreservation and storage.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year trial period.

GS-6:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience collecting or evaluating animal germplasm samples; keeping records of experimental data; and maintaining equipment and software used for data and evaluation procedures.
OR
Education: Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related courses may include animal sciences, livestock/farm animal management, animal/livestock production, chemistry, biochemistry, or microbiology.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.
GS-7:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in animal research; collecting and evaluating animal samples; and recording or analyzing research results and data.
OR
Education: Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related courses may include animal sciences, livestock/farm animal management, animal/livestock production, chemistry, biochemistry, or microbiology.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.
