There are a total of 3 positions at the following locations: Bryce Canyon National Park (Bryce, UT) Salary $46, 696-$74, 250 Per Year Relocation is available. Valid State Driver's license required. CAREER SEASONAL-Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work for approximately 11 months in pay status, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year, from approximately 11/4 to 11/18. Thomas Edison National Historical Park (West Orange, NJ) Salary $44, 057-$86, 780 Per Year Relocation may be available. Valid State Driver's license required. Situational Telework eligible. Housing is not available. This position will main collateral duties involving Fee Collection, Volunteer Program Coordination, and Education Coordination for the park. EDIS location/ position requires a Tier 2 Background Investigation (Moderate Risk) due to Fee collection collateral duties. Major Duties: Develop and present formal and informal audience and learner-centered interpretive experiences using interpretive skills, techniques, and tools delivered in-person and through interpretive media and technology. Conduct straightforward research on a variety of topics. Research, develop, and present interpretive programs on a variety of interpretive and educational themes. Plan, schedule, prepare and effectively conduct education programs; workshops, seminars, and conferences to promote the parks education program, to include distance learning. Plan, distribute, and monitor work assignments; evaluate work performance and provide feedback to others on their performance. Communicate effectively and apply interpersonal skills. Enhance in-park experiences by developing and offering a wide variety of fully accessible nonpersonal services and interpretive media. Develop and maintain effective relationships with others; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences. Connect with all types of audiences through digital content (e.g., the web, social media, mobile technology, live broadcast or distance programming, podcasts, virtual tours) to introduce, inform, engage, and strengthen relationships between the public and their national parks. Review existing park policies, standards, methods, controls, and procedures. Use a personal computer and various software applications such as word processing, reports, spreadsheets, databases, graphs, desktop publishing, and electronic mail (e.g., Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Access, and Internet Explorer), and peripherals (e.g., various printers, plotters, copiers, faxes and scanners). In addition to the major duties the ranger will be responsible for the following: At location: Thomas Edison National Historical Park (EDIS)- Fee Collection, Volunteer Program Coordination, and Education Program Coordination. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. The employees of the National Park Service care for special places that are the heritage of all Americans. Since its inception in 1916, the National Park Service has been dedicated to the preservation and management of this country's outstanding natural, historical, and recreational resources. Park ranger - interpreters connect people to parks. They play a key role in ensuring that visitors have a meaningful, satisfying, and safe park experience, help visitors decide how to spend their time in the park, and inform them about the wonders that await their discovery. Park ranger - interpreters are specially trained to engage the public so that each park visitor can find a personal connection with the meanings and values found in the places and stories of that park. They help visitors explore the many dimensions of parks by introducing them to a variety of perspectives. By providing the opportunity for visitors to care about the places they visit, they promote stewardship and the opportunity for those visitors to care for park resources. National parks are among the most remarkable places in America for recreation, learning, and inspiration. The work done by park ranger-interpreters through effective interpretive and educational programs encourages the development of a personal stewardship ethic and broadens public support for preserving and protecting park resources, so that they may be enjoyed by present and future generations.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/09/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Applicants must possess at least 1 of the following minimum qualifications: GS-05 Level: 1 full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in public or private sectors), performing work that provided broad knowledge of resource protection, resource education, and public use management. Examples where this experience could have been gained include serving as a park guide or tour leader; conducting law enforcement or investigative work; responding to emergencies, archaeological or historical preservation work; forestry or fire management; or similar operations. OR 4 years of education above H.S (120 semester hours or 180 qtr. hrs) leading to a bachelor's degree with 24 semester hrs of course work in a related field(Related fields of study include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources). Must include copy of transcripts. OR Equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include copy of transcripts. GS-07 Level: 1 full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in public or private sectors), performing work presenting formal and informal interpretive experiences. Assist in presenting interpretive structured programs, tours, presentations, demonstrations, events, and virtual interactions. Using interpretive material, provide non-personal services and interpretive media (e.g., signs, waysides, publications, exhibits, audio, video and other digital content). Engage public with formal structured interpretive programs (e.g., walks, talks, tours, presentations, demonstrations, and virtual interactions). This experience could have been gained serving as a Park Guide, Tour Leader, Park Ranger conducting interpretive work, Park Interpretive Specialist, or other similar work. OR 1 year of graduate study in a related field. Related fields include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled. (1 year of graduate education is 18 semester hrs or 27 qtr. hrs). Must include copy of transcripts. OR Superior Academic Achievement based on 1) class standing, 2) grade-point average, or 3) honor society membership. Specific requirements are 1) Class Standing: Upper third of graduating class based on completed courses; 2a) Grade Point Average: 3.0 or higher as recorded on official transcript or as computed based on 4 yrs of education; 2b) based on courses completed during the final full 2 years of curriculum; or 2c) 3.5 or higher based on average of courses completed in the specific major field of study; or 3) Honor Society Membership: Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society listed in the Association of College Honor Societies, Booklet of Information, and/or Baird's Manual of American College Fraternities (membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision). Create, develop, and design formal and informal interpretive curriculum using a variety of fully developed skills, techniques, and tools. Develop interpretive curriculum, structured programs, tours, presentations, demonstrations, events, and virtual interactions. Conduct research on different scientific and /or historical subjects. Develop or design interpretive material, provide non-personal services and interpretive media (e.g., signs, waysides, publications, exhibits, audio, video and other digital content). Engage public with formal structured interpretive programs (e.g., walks, talks, tours, presentations, demonstrations, events, and virtual interactions). Lead others, provide oversight, resource education, mentorship, training, and coaching. This experience could have been gained serving as a Park Ranger directly conducting interpretive work, Park Interpretive Specialist, Outdoor activities Director, Park Activities Coordinator providing formal educational resource training, developing curriculum, or other similar work. Creditable experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility to the normal line of progression. OR 2 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education or master's, or equivalent graduate degree related to the occupation. Fields include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled(1 yr of graduate education is 18 semester hrs or 27 qtr. hrs).
