The Eastern Colorado Health Care System is currently recruiting for one full time GS 13 Occupational or Physical Therapist to be the Supervisor of the Rehabilitative Program.

Duties

Occupational Therapist-Supervisor Rehabilitation Program duties include, but aren't limited to the following: Responsible for Rehabilitation Program's day-to-day operations at RMR VAMC to include: Inpatient acute care mobility supporting inpatient Med/Surg Services, CARF accredited CIIRP, PT Residents during inpatient rotations Accountable for various inpatient rehabilitation programs & outcomes that include but aren't limited to: CARF accreditation programs, Functional Independence Measure, FIM program manager, Functional Status & Outcomes Database, FSOD, MedTel Outcomes, 90-day FIM follow-up & uSPEQ CIIRP patient satisfaction surveys Directly supervises 10+ employees, including Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapists & Occupational Therapy Assistants & provides key clinical & educational training programs, including the overall technical oversight of supervised PTs/PTAs & OTs/COTAs Performs supervisory responsibilities that include but aren't limited to: assigns work, monitors productivity, workload, clinical volume, reviews work for accuracy/validity, imposes disciplinary measures, ensures appropriate staffing levels & monitors clinical privileges Performs human resources administrative tasks including interviews/selects qualified applicants; develops, completes, monitors & evaluates performance evaluations; recommends promotions; maintains effective labor management relations/immediately respond to performance issues Develops, approves & implements policies/procedures that focus on clinical needs/services that are delivered/provided Coordinates/develops rehabilitative services for entire Northern Colorado Inpatient catchment area Spends at least 25% of time performing direct patient care clinical duties Communicates w/ PM&RS Leadership Assigns work to staff & volunteers for delivery/support of treatment & patient/family education Triages/coordinates PT/OT consults for appropriateness/completeness prior to scheduling/distributing workload & ensures consults are addressed by deadlines Coordinates inpatient scheduling of consults for new patients Coordinates w/ other sections/services, e.g. Med/Surg, Case Management & Nursing for PT/OT treatment, treatment scheduling & care delivery & resolves issues that interfere w/ PT/OT Serves as consultant & mentors PT/OT & other hospital staff & evaluates & plans PT/OT treatment Performs all OT staff duties/activities, including evaluating/treating patients Identifies continuing education needs based on Inpatient PT and OT staffs' performance Assists w/ educating student trainees from multiple schools, PMRS Physiatry Residents & PT Residents Develops/plans educational programs to include patient, family, and professional personnel Coordinates research studies/serves as consultant for research initiatives staff Responsible for maintaining Licensed Independent Practitioner, LIP packets for staff & submitting FPPE & OPPE paperwork for Medical Staff Office reviews Provides orientation/training for new staff members Conducts daily huddle & holds department meetings/in-services regularly to teach/disseminate information Ensures CIIRP staff maintain FIM certification & regularly updates FSOD w/ CIIRP FIM & length of stay data Tracks/updates CIIRP data to meet CARF standards Guides CIIRP team through strategic planning, process improvement & program requirements Develops, plans, implements & monitors PT/OT's Quality of Care, QM, for PM&RS's provided services Collects/analyzes statistical data for various reports & submits them by deadlines Makes recommendations for expendable/non-expendable equipment/budgetary needs for PT/OT section w/ PM&RS Chief/PT & OT Section Chief Ensures all equipment, treatment areas & operational supplies are clean, maintained & repaired & appropriate equipment is available to provide highest quality of care that aligns to current best practices Monitors/analyzes various performance metrics & utilizes data to drive decisions Reports metrics to leadership regularly or ad hoc Ensures OSHA standards & facility safety guidelines & infection control policies are met in treatment areas Willingly accepts additional special assignments to meet program goals/customer needs Demonstrates I-Care values when interacting w/ all internal/external customers Maintains current knowledge of & practices in accordance w/ The Joint Commission requirements Protects printed & electronic files containing sensitive data according to Federal privacy Act & confidentiality statutes Follows regulations & instructions regarding release of sensitive/protected patient/ employee information May serve on Service Line committees, workgroups, &/or task forces, etc. Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm Telework: Not available Virtual: This is not a virtual position Functional Statement #: PD554-55380-O Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not required

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. Applicants must be proficient in spoken & written English Education and Experience. Applicants must meet at least one of the requirements below: Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy AND two (2) years of experience as an occupational therapist; NOTE: The baccalaureate degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision that the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupational therapy. OR Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) full years of graduate education in a related field; NOTE: The baccalaureate degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision that ACOTE would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupational therapy. OR Master's Degree or higher in occupational therapy. Individuals must be a graduate of a degree program in occupational therapy approved by the ACOTE or predecessor organizations. This is inclusive of an internship-supervised fieldwork experience required by the educational institution. ACOTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Degree programs may be verified by contacting the American Occupational Therapy Association website or at their office address: American Occupational Therapy Association, P.O. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD 20824-1220. Foreign Graduates. Graduates of foreign occupational therapy programs must meet option 2 above under the Basic Requirements, Education/Experience if they have a current, full, active AND an unrestricted license as defined in the State Licensing statement below. Certification. Candidates must possess a current NBCOT certification as an OT. State Licensure. Candidates must possess a full, current, and unrestricted state license, to practice occupational therapy in a state, territory or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia. Loss of Credential. An employee in this occupation who fails to maintain the required state or territorial licensure and the NBCOT certification, both current and in good standing, must be removed from the occupation, which may result in termination of employment. Grade Determination: GS-13 GS-13 Supervisory Occupational Therapist Education, Experience, and Licensure. Completion of one year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level and directly related to the position being filled. AND Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, KSAs. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: 1) Ability to balance multiple responsibilities, set priorities, delegate tasks, meet multiple deadlines, analyze organizational problems, and develop and implement effective solutions. 2)Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations and use data effectively to manage workload, quality performance, and productivity within the service. 3) Skill in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers to include conflict resolution. 4) Ability to utilize evidence-based practices and clinical practice guidelines in a professional area and to guide the staff in applying these tools. Preferred Experience: At least 3 years Supervisory/Management experience; at least 2 years of inpatient acute care and/or inpatient rehabilitative experience; strong organizational and communicational skills and preferred knowledge and experience with the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, CARF.
