The incumbent of this position is a maintenance mechanic on the Maintenance Crew in the Maintenance & Operation (M&O) section of Engineering Service.
**This is an open continuous announcement and applicants will be referred every two weeks.**
The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be November 1, 2023, with subsequent cut-off dates on the 15th of each month.
Duties
His/her duties include a wide variety of tasks involved in the installation, maintenance, operation, and repair of building service equipment, medical care equipment, etc., to include, but not limited to Utility Systems, HVAC, plumbing, fire al arm/suppression, nurse call, lighting and electrical, security, Medical Gas systems, exam table, carpentry, painting, facility structure and cosmetics, including lawn care and irrigation.
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide maintenance crew support on maintenance type projects throughout the medical center.
The incumbent performs routine minor renovations, maintenance, and repairs to facilities, structures, equipment, and related fixtures. Performs a variety of duties in occupations such as painting, carpentry, masonry repair, and sheetrock finishing. Uses a variety of trade practices associated with carpentry, masonry, painting, utilities and other related trades. Incumbent will required to paint, hang sheetrock, repair damaged walls, hang wall items, perform minor plaster repairs, install/lay ceramic tile, repair ceilings, and repair flooring.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 3:30PM-MIDNIGHT & Saturday-Tuesday, 1:30PM-MIDNIGHT

The incumbent shall have the ability to read and follow wiring diagrams, skill to measure, cut, and pull wire, and bend conduit to specified lengths and angles.
Knowledge of work practices and methods involved with a variety of trades, plumbing, pipe fitting, HVAC, sheet metal, welding, electrical, painting, general maintenance, and lawn care.
Ability and skill to use measuring instruments, operate tools and equipment, of machines of varying degrees of difficulty
Provides basic maintenance and repairs of the HVAC system to include minor troubleshooting, testing/changing fuses, changing air filters, cleaning grills and ducts, etc.
The incumbent is responsible for conducting safety inspections, to include, but not limited to emergency lighting, emergency egress lighting, and fire alarm related equipment.
The incumbent shall be able to maintain a high degree of mental alertness and concentration due to the nature of muscular and visual coordination needed to repair and diagnose a variety of manuals and electronic equipment
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work requires prolonged standing, climbing up and down ladders and scaffolding, working in cramped awkward positions while installing items; reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and powered tools; lifting, pushing and pulling objects of varying weights up to 20 pounds and less often, up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts or moves with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 50 pounds. Also requires working outside in low and high temperatures with frequent breaks.
