The incumbent will be assigned to work in the Emergency Department (ED). The incumbent will be supervised by the ED Nurse Manager. The Healthcare Technician (HCT) is a highly specialized position, providing both clinical and administrative support while performing duties traditionally done by multiple staff in other services and sections.
Duties
Performs or assists RN with personal care, such as body or oral hygiene
Dressing/undressing- ensuring patient privacy at all times
Toileting/elimination- ensuring patient privacy at all times
Provides direct observation for both suicidal and homicidal patients
Performs or assists RN with search and inventory of patient belongings
Inserts peripheral IVs and performs venipuncture
Performs 12-lead EKG's and gives to provider within 10 minutes of interpretation
Answers call lights and communicates Patient's needs to assigned RN or Charge Nurse
Transporting of low-risk telemetry patients to testing and assigned inpatient units
Cleaning and stocking of supplies
Work Schedule: Part Time. 20 hours/week. Rotating tours of duty to meet the 24/7 needs of the emergency room department.

Physical Requirements: Requires considerable walking, bending, standing, lifting, and handling of equipment and supplies. Requires dexterity in performing technical procedures. Proper body mechanics should be utilized at all times.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Experience ranges widely in type and includes support duties to medical or health personnel such as medical officers and registered nurses. Technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience would typically include: performing venipunctures, label and send specimens to lab, communicate with assigned RN, providing a variety of personal nursing care tasks, knowledge of medical supply items and equipment, transporting and transferring patients, and assisting other medical staff with procedures.

Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.(Copy of School Transcripts required.)
