You will serve as a WELDER LEADER in the DEPARTMENT OF NAVY located in the Industrial Support Division of the Machinery Programs & Platforms Department, code 20, at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD). NSWC PHILA DIV.
Duties
You will monitor work in progress to ensure instructions on work sequence, procedures, and time schedules are being followed.
You will provides training to workers through demonstrations of work and on-the-job experience.
You will ensures safety and housekeeping rules are followed by checking that protective equipment is worn; tools and equipment are used properly.
You will pass on written or verbal instruction received from supervisors, planners, or engineers.
You will be responsible for work process that requires independent planning, work sequencing, material staging, work layout with the calculation of dimensional clearances and tolerances for the assembly and installation of unique test equipment.
You will use initiative, judgment and skill in leading the installation and operation of prototype test equipment and facility support systems.
You will ensure availability of all tools, material, tooling and equipment required to accomplish assignments. The incumbent initiates procurements of these items if they are not available.
You will ensure work is completed in a timely manner, in accordance with standards of the industry, equipment manufacturer’s recommendation, NSWCPD, local, state and Federal standards and codes.
You will report and correct non-compliances found in existing facilities during the execution of work.
You will provide various electric resistance welding methods and equipment or manual welding processes to carry out standard, previously established welding operations.
You will plan and lay out the work from work requests, approved drawings, sketches, and technical specifications.
You will receive work assignments from other Work Leaders, Supervisors, or Project Engineers.
You will plan, sequence work, and obtain material and equipment based on work requests, approved drawings, sketches, and technical specifications.
You will work with little or no progress checks and reviews finished work for conformance to specifications and accepted trade practices.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current First Aid and CPR certification.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may be subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
Qualifications
