This position is with the U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Directorate of Standards and Guidance (DSG). This position is at the full performance level. This position is Inside the bargaining unit. This is NOT a remote position. Selectee will be expected to report to the office.

Duties

Writes and edits content for proposed and final rules, requests for information, and other Federal Register publications, including proposed and final regulatory text and supporting analyses. Researches and provides information on new science-based methods or approaches for conducting investigations and studies for use in updating OSHA field operations directives. Develops and interprets safety and health standards and guidance in arboriculture, forestry, landscaping or agriculture industries, operations are addressed throughout to ensure compliance with safety and health standards and ensuring uniform application of safety and general industry standards. Writes, reviews, and comments on additional guidance documents developed within or outside of OSHA that addresses workplace hazards to inform employers and workers. Conducts studies, surveys and a wide range of work site operations that frequently involve unusual, complex, or obscure hazards for which there are little or no established procedures or practices.

Qualifications

This position has an Individual Occupational Requirement. You must meet both the Basic Requirements and the Specialized Experience to qualify for a Physical Scientist, as described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, General Physical Science Series, 1301. General Physical Science Series, 1301 (opm.gov) Basic Requirement: Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND Specialized Experience: Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12 in the Federal Service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Analyzing technologies, work processes or working conditions to recommend modifications to safety standards and guidance; assisting with analyses and evaluations of proposed standards to support health projects relating to occupational safety and health issues; providing advice or guidance to a wide variety of audiences on solutions for complex or unusual safety problems.
