You will serve as a MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC in the Environmental Business Line Department of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will operate test equipment (e.g., outboard engine test tank, hydraulic engine stands, outboard lower unit stands, chain falls) to troubleshoot equipment. You will install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments according to production specifications. You will troubleshoot mechanical systems and components of marine machinery and equipment to identify needed repairs. You will diagnose problems with outboard engines to perform repairs.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.
  • You may be designated as Alpha personnel and as such will be required when contacted to respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • You will be required to possess a Class B commercial Driver's license (CDL) with T-Tank and air brake endorsements.
  • You will be required to qualify for a medical examiners certificate (ATA card).
  • You are required to possess a valid state driver's license for operating Government vehicles up to and including 10-ton vacuum truck, 15-ton truck and forklift.
  • You will be required to successfully complete the OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and 8-hour annual refresher training.
  • You will be required to successfully pass required DOT class B training course.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for the WG-10 level is: 1) Reassembling and installing the equipment, connects the power source, performs operational and functional tests, and makes required adjustments in order to ensure proper operations of the entire system 2) Inspecting/testing damaged machine parts and marking defective areas or advising supervisors of repair needs; 3) Interpreting technical manuals, shop directives, Multiview blueprints, and other documents to determine critical dimensions and key reference points for repairs. The Screen-out Element for the WG-08 level is: 1) Applying specific maintenance and repair procedures to install, maintain, and repair marine machinery and equipment. 2) Laying out prefabrication and welding work from blueprints, specifications and oral instructions; And 3) Obtaining descriptions, opinions, and recommendations on the nature and extent of repairs required through discussions with operating personnel.
