This National Guard position is for a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0262000 and is part of the FL JFHQ, National Guard.
Duties
As an IT Specialist (NETWORK), GS-2210-07/09/11 you will function as a technical specialist on issues relating to the wide area network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) systems and their integration in the network. The work involves network administration, optimization and performance in support of the supports the state's wide area command and control integrated network; perform a variety of network device configuration and connectivity tasks; implement the standard configuration software loads for all network devices. utilize benchmarks and performance measurement and evaluation data to manage network servers and data communication devices to support normal and surge workload; work with technical support personnel in resolving critical problems.
Requirements
- NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
- This position is categorized as IAT Level II IAW DOD 8570.01. Selectee must obtain required formal training within 6 months of hire date.
- Security Clearance requirements are determined by position and/or MOS/AFSC compatibility.

Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This position is in the Excepted Federal Civil Service "under the authority of 32 U.S.C. 709" and is open to Category 1 & 3 Only. Category 1: All permanent/indefinite (T32 and T5) technicians employed by the agency WITH dual FL National Guard military membership; Category 3: All current military members of the Florida National Guard. First consideration will be given to Category 1.
PCS: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses will be granted ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard.

MILITARY RANK: Officer/Warrant Officer/Enlisted: O4 & Below
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:GS07 must have at least 12 months experience, education, or training in translating detailed logical steps developed by others into language codes that computers accept where this required understanding of procedures and limitations appropriate to use of a programming language. Experience interviewing subject-matter personnel to get facts regarding work processes, and synthesizing the resulting data into charts showing information flow.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:GS09 must have at least 24 months experience, education, or training in analysis of the interrelationship of pertinent components of the system. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment. Experience scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:GS11 must have at least 36 months experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.
MULTIPLE LEVEL RECRUITMENT: This position is being advertised using multiple level recruitment to allow for consideration of applicants with the basic skills necessary to develop to the full journeyman level of the position. If a less than fully qualified applicant is selected, incumbent may be trained and developed until proficiency is gained to full journeyman level. If less than fully qualified individual is selected for this position, the position has potential to Grade 11 .
STATEMENT OF DIFFERENCE: The purpose of this position is to provide on-the-job experience for the purpose of qualifying for the target grade level described in the position description. Work assignments are selected to provide training and experience in this occupation. The incumbent is required to obtain increased knowledge and skill in the duties of the position at the target grade level. Promotion to the full journeyman level position is not automatic with the completion of the time in grade requirements, but rather it is contingent upon the assignments and performance of full journeyman level duties on a regular and recurring basis.
Education
If you are using Education to qualify for this position, at the GS-9 level, a masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree may be substituted. At the GS-11 level, a Ph.D. or equivalent, or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
