This position is located in the Department of Labor (DOL), Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Office of Publications and Special Studies (OPUBSS), Division of Information and Marketing Services (DIMS).
This position is outside the bargaining unit.
Duties
For a Supervisory Technical Information Specialist, GS-1412-13, duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Supports the agency by providing marketing and editorial services for Bureau public information materials; directs staff in the creation of promotional materials and educational materials for the BLS Classroom webpage describing economic data and analysis; makes suggestions for improvements to marketing materials and higher levels procurement of new data dissemination systems, and develops new material/content to explain economic principles for targeted outreach campaigns, to test and implement new technologies.
Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short- term priorities, prepares work schedules, assigns work to subordinates, evaluates work performance of subordinates, counsels and instructs on work and administrative matters, identifies employee training needs and improves unit productivity.
Works with staff to plan and manage exhibit programs and seminars for BLS customers to promote the various statistical products and services the BLS provides; ensures the staff adheres to security regulations for pre-release data and information and ensures Bureau exhibits are properly staffed and that hand-outs and other informational materials correlate with the conference theme and are in sufficient quantities for expected audience.
Participates in BLS outreach and marketing activities provides liaison between Bureau officials and the users of its data, and to inform the public and press about the nature and uses of Bureau data; initiates contacts, builds and maintains relationships with BLS data users and respondents from the media, community and economic development arenas, government and education.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Education: A full 4-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with major study in the subject-matter field of the position to be filled.

Experience: Four years of experience that provided a knowledge of the basic principles, theories, practices, techniques, and terminology of a discipline or subject-matter field; an understanding of the standard methods, procedures, and techniques of research and analysis in the subject-matter field; and where appropriate, ability to read and comprehend nontechnical material in one or more foreign languages. Such experience must have been equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4-year college curriculum.

A combination of education and experience as described above.
Experience must have demonstrated the ability to perform, supervise, or direct one or more of the functional areas of work covered by this series; to understand the concepts, theories, new developments, and co-relationship of information in related fields; and to maintain up-to-date information on the state of the art. For positions where foreign language proficiency is needed, applicants must be able to read and/or translate material in the appropriate specialized subject-matter field.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
For GS-1412-13: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-12 in the Federal Service.
Qualifying specialized experience for GS-13 includes:
Developing, evaluating and improving marketing materials to explain to targeted audiences the current programs, and economic/statistical data, principles, and/or trends.
Establishing and maintaining working relationships with clients, government officials, and media representatives and uses these relationships to develop new business opportunities.
Managing and hosting special events, conferences and meetings to communicate publicity information to different levels of federal agency officials, representatives of private organizations, the press, and researchers.
Education
