Duties
Initiates security clearance actions for applicants for entry into employment and for employees for retention in employment with DISA.
Processes initial and periodic updates for Background Investigations for civilians and military personnel being considered for employment with DISA.
Reviews, and evaluates a variety of material relative to clearance requirements to determine adequacy and completeness.
Provides advisory services to managers and field offices nationwide regarding personnel security.
Responsible for entering and maintaining accurate and up to date personnel security records in the agency security databases.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
- The incumbent of this position is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/ADP I security clearance. This is a Test Designated Position (TDP), and as such, the incumbent is subject to initial and random drug testing.
- This is a Mission Essential position. The incumbent supports the 24-hour, 7-day a week operational mission within DISA organizations.
- This position has been identified as a Defense Security Position (DSP). Individuals occupying positions designated as DSPs are required to meet certification requirements of the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) program.
Qualifications
Time in Grade:
For entry at the GS-09 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-07 or higher grade in the Federal Service.
For entry at the GS-11 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-09 or higher grade in the Federal Service.
For entry at the GS-12 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-11 or higher grade in the Federal Service.
Specialized Experience:
For the GS-09, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-07 if outside the Federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as experience utilizing research skills to identify principles, concepts, and policies pertaining or related to the security occupation, independently identify issues/problems that may arise, and successfully completing various projects.
For the GS-11, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-09 if outside the Federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as experience applying personnel security principles, concepts, and policies to resolve problems, provide progress updates, and independently resolve problems by properly applying security methods and guides.
For the GS-12, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-11 if outside the Federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as experience independently reviewing and evaluating reports, conducting security reviews, making determinations for interim access to classified information, initiating security clearance requests, and reviewing information of a derogatory nature determining and taking the appropriate steps to address the issue.
In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirements, qualified applicants must also possess the quality of experience as it relates to how closely or to what extent an applicant's background, recency of experience, education, and training are relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the announced position. Candidates must clearly demonstrate the possession of competencies necessary to successfully perform the work of the position at the appropriate level to be qualified for the position. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE AT GS-09 LEVEL: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or Master's or equivalent graduate degree such as LL.B. or J.D., may be substituted to meet the experience requirement.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE AT GS-11 LEVEL: Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level
