You will serve as a WASTEWATER PLANT OPERATOR in the UTILITIES AND ENERGY DIVISION of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII. Salary Range of WG-05: $24.46 - $28.53 Salary Range of WG-07: $28.97 - $33.81

Duties

You will monitor the operation of pumping stations and facility process units from a supervisor control and data acquisition (SCADA) telemonitoring center to insure uninterrupted pumping of wastewater from the pumping stations. You will collect and composite wastewater and sludge samples from the various unit processes for laboratory analysis. You will make regular inspections of all facility process units and equipment to check, observe, and report any abnormal conditions and/or operational problems. You will perform chemical and physical analyses on individual and composite samples for process control purposes.

• If selected at the WG-05: You will be required to obtain and maintain a current State of Hawaii Grade 1 Wastewater Operator Certificate within two years.
• If selected at the WG-07: You must possess a current State of Hawaii Grade 1 Wastewater Operator Certificate.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain all licenses and certifications required by the site safety program within 1 year of arrival on duty.
• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION WG-05: 1) Utilizing hand tools, instruments and safety equipment to assist with the regulation of wastewater facility equipment; 2) Assisting in collecting samples and performing chemical and physical analysis; and 3) Assisting in interpreting laboratory analysis in regard to waste treatment processes. OR WG-07: 1) Maintaining plant logs and data sheets to document the operation of a wastewater treatment plant; 2) Collecting wastewater and sludge samples for laboratory testing; and 3) Reading meters for wastewater, water, air, chemical, pressure gages, and electrical instruments to determine if adjustments are needed.
