You will serve as a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC TRAINING LEADER in the Production Trades, Division, Industrial Execution Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. Duty Station: Kaneohe, Hawaii

Duties

You will develop training courses, curriculum, and instruct courses; develop and/or revise lesson plans, administer test and examinations to measure and evaluate the progress of trainees. You will instruct apprentices, trainees, journeymen, workers, military personnel and others in the use of tools, nomenclature, theory of operations, repair procedures and test procedures of components associated with the aircraft mechanic trade. You will demonstrate proper trade techniques and practices, explaining safety precautions to be followed in setting up ground support machinery and test equipment. You will evaluate the progress of workers in terms of such factors as interest, cooperation, assimilation of basic fundamentals and theory, and practical application of work methods.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • The incumbent may be required to work all shifts on a rotational basis and work overtime.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain required level(s) of certification and/or training.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION A. Have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including I have performed independently all of the following duties: 1) installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and performing final functional and operational tests on a variety of major aircraft systems, components, and prototypes i.e. airframes, landing gear, gear boxes, rotor heads, pumps, and hydraulic, pressurization, and flight control systems; 2) inspecting, disassembling, reassembling, overhauling and testing complex aircraft systems; 3) reading and interpreting blueprints and schematic diagrams to perform work to close tolerances; 4) using a variety of tools such as: calipers, protractors, micrometers, hammers, torque wrenches, templates, hydraulic test stand, and electric and pneumatic hoisting equipment. B. Have the ability to perform the full range of tasks including: 1) performing routine maintenance on aircraft systems and components; 2) inspecting, disassembling, reassembling, overhauling and testing complex aircraft systems; 3) reading and interpreting blueprints and schematic diagrams to perform work to close tolerances; 4) using a variety of tools such as: calipers, protractors, micrometers, hammers, torque wrenches, templates, hydraulic test stand, and electric and pneumatic hoisting equipment. C. Have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) assisting with installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and performing tests on a variety of aircraft systems, components, and prototypes; 2) assisting with inspecting, disassembling, reassembling, overhauling and testing aircraft systems; 3) using a variety of tools to perform mechanic tasks.
