About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, with headquarters in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command and is staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 67 military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services.
This position will be filled on a permanent basis.
Duties
Provides administrative assistance with transportation functions of moving recruits from the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
Assembles applicants, administers briefings, and instructs applicants on procedures.
Enters data in Command automated system(s) to record applicant processing information.
Operates a variety of office automation equipment to prepare documents.
Fingerprint applicants/recruits in accordance with guidance.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has been designated as non-sensitive and requires a personnel security investigation.
- Incumbent may be required to work an occasional Saturday and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
- Incumbent may be required to work unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements.
- Qualified typist is required (40 wpm).

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience Required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as Briefing recruits/applicants on rules and procedures to ensure understanding and compliance; Obtaining data from recruits/applicants to verify eligibility for military enlistment; Utilizing office automation software programs to accomplish tasks such as preparing correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, graphic, etc. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Education Substitution for Specialized Experience: Successful completion of at least four years above high school. (Must provide a copy of your transcripts.)
Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education in excess of 60 hours (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. (Must provide a copy of your transcripts.)
