This position is located in the Organizational Development service and is supervised by the Supervisory Training Instructor. The incumbent provides a full range of patient education and library services to a VA Medical Center. The incumbent's primary duty is to deliver patient education to the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System patients.
Duties
The incumbent is involved in acquiring, developing, coordinating, processing, delivering, and transmitting patient health information to patients and family members and medical information to health care providers and administrative staff in support of a large, medical, teaching hospital with an extensive research program and specialized treatment programs. The core duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Support the patient education and patient medical library section in the delivery of patient education to TVHS VA Medical Center patients.
Schedules patient education classes and other classes or meetings on a monthly basis, or as needed. Schedules classroom space on the Sharepoint and sets up audio-visual equipment.
Assist patients, family members, physicians, nurses, trainees, affiliates, and other members of the healthcare type. Interpersonal skills are critical
Ensures that handouts, pamphlets, and other educational materials are distributed throughout the Medical Center.
Tracks and manages all requests for approval of patient health education material; ensures the list of approved patient education documents are current.
Proficient in the MyHealtheVet program including authentication and online patient education resource sites both on the local TVHS Intranet page and the Internet.
Provide technical and clerical support to Library Section, Patient Education Coordinator, scholarship coordinator and AO.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday | 7:30 - 4:00 PM CST

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/30/2023.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
GS-5 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as:
Maintaining calendars to schedule meetings, conferences, and appointments.
Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) to prepare charts, slides, presentations, etc.
Preparing and reviewing correspondence.
Distributing mail by processing incoming and outgoing materials and correspondence.
Filing materials/records, per established procedures.
OR
EDUCATION: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To substitute education for specialized experience, applicants must have successfully completed four (4) full years above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (Unofficial transcripts must be submitted. Transcripts must reflect coursework and grades received.)
OR
COMBINATION: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable towards meeting the combination of education and specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. (Unofficial transcripts must be submitted. Transcripts must reflect coursework and grades received.).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Most of the work performed is sedentary in nature. It sometimes involves the transporting or carrying of training equipment, training materials and program-related items. Physical demands routinely required are sitting at a desk, standing, walking, reaching, and pushing loaded book carts and audiovisual equipment. The physical demands must be performed within these permanent limitations: walk - 2 hours | stand - 2 hours | no bending/stooping/squatting/climbing/kneeling.
