Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, Primary Care Service, Shreveport, LA, has an immediate opening for a full-time Chiropractor.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Overton Brooks VAMC Chiropractic Clinic within the Pain Section of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitative Service Line provides examination, diagnosis, treatment, and management of non-operative musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions. Chiropractors are licensed independent providers who work as part of VA interdisciplinary teams including physical medicine and rehabilitation, primary care, pain management, other relevant medical and surgical specialties, and other relevant associated health disciplines. The Chiropractic Physician will work collaboratively with various other therapeutic modalities at their assigned site of care. These modalities may include, but not limited to, acupuncture, physical therapy, massage therapy, yoga, and tai chi.
Clinical Duties: The exact privileges and procedures for a particular provider will be approved by the Professional Standards Board. All chiropractors must provide the following:
Patient Care: Provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life.
Medical/Clinical Knowledge: Demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical and social sciences, and the application of their knowledge to patient care and the education of others.
Clinical Judgment: Practice-based learning and improvement, and are expected to be able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Expected to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.
Professionalism: Expected to demonstrate behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, and understanding and sensitivity to diversity, and a responsible attitude toward their patients, their profession.
Systems-Based Practice: Expected to demonstrate both an understanding of the contexts and systems in which health care is provided, and the ability to apply this knowledge to improve optimizing health care.
Education:
Expected to show effectiveness in teaching, monitor and coordinate educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision.
Supervision:
Reports to the Pain Section Chief and Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitative Service Line.
Follows established organizational structure and guidelines, assist in program planning and staff development across a variety of clinical settings for implementation systems, and be able to apply that knowledge as dictated by the exigencies of daily business.
Assures that all Program policies and procedures are in compliance with VHA regulations, Central Office directives, VISN guidelines, Hospital policy, Union Master Agreement, professional guidelines, and all accrediting and regulatory agencies.
Implement procedures so that the minimum structural and process requirements stipulated by VACO are satisfied.
Active in research activities related to the program development and evaluation processes and collaboration with the research assistant. The areas of research are typically of considerable scope and complexity and require novel approaches and which result in answers to important questions or important changes in existing methods and techniques.
Ensure proper coordination between the delivery of the chiropractic services and the overall delivery of healthcare.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Chiropractor Basic Requirements
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education. Degree of doctor of chiropractic, or its equivalent, resulting from a course of education in chiropractic. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools or colleges approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:(1) United States schools or colleges of chiropractic listed as accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, at http://www.cce-usa.org/, or equivalent agency, in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure..
Licensure or Registration: (1) Doctor of Chiropractic (Except Residents). Current, full and unrestricted license to practice chiropractic in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The facility Director may waive this requirement if the doctor of chiropractic is to serve in a country other than the United States and the doctor of chiropractic has licensure in that country. (2) Residents. Licensure in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia before completion of the first year of a VA residency. Unlicensed residents must meet any registration or other equivalent requirements established for chiropractic residents of non-VA facilities or chiropractic clinics with which the VA facility is affiliated for training purposes during the first year of VA residency.
English Language Proficiency: Doctors of chiropractic appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements stated above, the following qualifications criteria must be met in determining the appropriate grade assignment of the candidates.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This position is for selection at the grade 12 (Full) only:
Associate Grade. None beyond the basic requirements.
Full Grade. Two years of full-time chiropractic practice or its equivalent. One year of full-time post-graduate residency specialty training from a chiropractic school or college accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, or equivalent agency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs is acceptable in lieu of the 2 years of practice. Candidate must have demonstrated the professional competence and performance necessary to provide independently the full range of clinical diagnosis and chiropractic treatment for the most prevalent neuro-musculoskeletal conditions including subluxation complex.
