The position is located in the Health Information Management (HIM) section of the Business and Financial Operations Service at the Veterans Health Care System. The primary purpose of the file clerk position is to maintain accessible records and provide efficient service for direct and indirect patient care by managing the receipt and scanning of health documents in a timely and accurate manner.
Duties
This position is located at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, GA. Incumbent will serve as File Clerk/Scanning Specialist in the Medical Records File Unit of Health Information Management Section, Health Administration Service Line.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Receiving and sorting incoming clinical and administrative health information, indexing, scanning, and assignment of appropriate nomenclature per VHA standard Index Reference Guide.
Completes electronic filing/scanning of paper and electronically received health and administrative documents in accordance with approved procedure.
Protects the confidentiality of patient information, access to computer files and release of access codes, according to established guidelines and policies.
Use desktop computer, multiple applications and software to complete electronic digitizing.
Use electronic health record CPRS, VISTA, Nuance software, Vista Image Display and Capture and desktop scanning equipment and/or Stand-alone Xerox printer.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/01/2023.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-03 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: scan documents, use automated software, general clerical experience, progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. (Your experience must be detailed in your resume)
OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have two years above high school. (Transcripts Required)
OR,
Combination: Applicant may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-04 level. Equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. To qualify by a combination of education and experience, the total qualifying experience will be calculated as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level and the total qualifying education will be calculated as percentage of the education required for the grade level. These two percentages will be added together, and the total percentages must equal at least 100 percent. Your experience must be documented and transcripts are required.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Prior experience in medical records preferred
Knowledge of Medical Terminology is preferred
Typing proficiency of 25+ words per minute.
Ability to life and carry at most 50 pounds.
Ability to remain on your feet extended periods.

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary; however, some bending, stretching, walking, and lifting are required.
