Job opening: Social Science Analyst

Salary: $94 199 - 145 617 per year
Employment Type: Full-time
The ORE reports findings to internal and external stakeholders to inform and guide their decisions. With a team of statisticians, analysts, and data management specialists, ORE supports CSOSA's mission and goals by: Conducting rigorous program evaluation; Measuring performance; Applying predictive analytics to guide decision making; Promoting good stewardship of the Agency's data; and Responding to requests for ad hoc analysis from managers and supervisors.

Duties

Conducting agency program evaluation activities using Quantitative/Statistical methods. Conducting agency program evaluation activities using Qualitative methods. Work with programs/service providers/management to develop logic models to describe the intended goals of programs/services and how program activities could produce them. Work collaboratively with programmers and data scientists to draw upon data from CSOSA's case management system and data warehouse to test, refine, and improve performance measurement systems. Produce reports of agency performance on a variety of metrics, and for various populations of offenders, and over differing time periods, including tabular and graphical presentations. Apply substantive and methodological skills to developing, testing, and improve CSOSA measures of agency performance. Identify and empirically investigate ways to enhance CSOSA's operational processes

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National

  • May be required to successfully complete a one year probationary period (unless already completed).
  • This is not a virtual or remote position; you must live within or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance of the duty location which is Washington D.C. (District of Columbia).

Qualifications

To minimally qualify for the GS-12 and GS-13 positions, you must meet all of the following requirements listed below: This position has a positive education (or years of related experience) requirement. To qualify for this position (regardless of grade), you must meet one of the basic requirements described below: Basic Requirements Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. or Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. or Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. GS-12 ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-11) in the Federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Specialized Experience requirement The goal of a Social Science Analyst is to develop new findings about the relationship between society, the human condition, and important social issues to help create better solutions to these problems. With this understanding, Specialized Experience is defined as: Experience using social science methodologies to conduct research into major social issues within (or may have an impact on) an agency, business, or organization to include analyzing data, conducting interviews and surveys, studying physical evidence, developing solutions based on findings, developing strategies, writing reports, conducting presentations of findings, and making recommendations. Working with statistics (or conducting a statistical analysis) to collect and analyze data to identify patterns and trends. Demonstrative or working knowledge in advanced social science methodology sufficient to serve as a troubleshooter, specialist, or coordinator. GS-13 ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-12) in the Federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Note about experience aquired Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
