This position is located in National BIO and AGRO-Defense Facility, Agricultural Research Service, Plains Area, Manhattan, KS.
In this position, you will participate in the overall implementation of electronic security system operation and the monitoring of security policy and procedures intended to safeguard personnel at the NBAF location.
Duties
Monitors access control and alarm system.
Prevents unauthorized access to personnel, equipment, facilities, and materials.
Participates in the auditing of inventory of equipment and other security items.
Utilizes electronic security systems resources to conduct initial investigations of, and files reports relating to, alleged or suspected violation of criminal laws.
Requirements

- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

- Special Agency Check (SAC) and limited background investigation required for Research Leader positions.
- SAC and full background investigation required for positions working with BSL-3 (or higher) agents, or in BSL-3/BSL-4 facilities.
- Department of Justice (DOJ) Security Risk Assessment (SRA) approval is required.
- Immunizations may be required.
- Respirator fitting and certification is required.
- Participation in and adherence to the facility’s Occupational Health Program.
- Participation in and adherence to the facility’s Personal Reliability Program.
- The ability to obtain/maintain a favorable Security Risk Assessment (required by FSAP).
- The ability to obtain/maintain favorably adjudicated Background Investigations or Security clearances (required by USDA).
- Pre-employment and random testing of substances of abuse.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
GS-7
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience implementing and operating electronic security systems including access control systems or intrusion detection systems; and monitoring closed circuit television, video management, or data storage systems.
OR
Education: Successful completion of one full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Security Systems Design, Security Engineering, Security and Intelligence, Information Assurance and Security, Homeland Security, and Criminal Justice.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
