Duties
Joining Customs & Border Protection (CBP), Enterprise Services, Immediate Office of the Executive Assistant Commissioner, will allow you to utilize your expertise in administration to manage and implement various administrative processes and programs. This position starts at a salary of $112,015.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $145,617.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $145,617 (GS-13 Step 10). In this Special Assistant position the purpose of the work is to analyze and evaluate current practices to ensure the efficient and effective productivity of the administrative operations in different areas of the organization. You will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals involved in planning and carrying out projects; conducting analysis and reviews; providing conclusions, decisions, and/or recommendations; developing long-range and short-range program plans, goals, objectives, and milestones; evaluating the effectiveness of the administrative programs; identifying and developing ways to resolve problems; developing administrative regulations or guidelines; and studying reports containing findings and recommendations.
Typical Work assignments include:
Serving as the principal scheduler and maintaining the daily and long-term calendar for the Enterprise Services (ES) Deputy Executive Assistant Commissioner (DEAC), and back up for the ES Executive Assistant Commissioner (EAC)Special Assistant, ensuring that meetings include sufficient details (e.g., location, briefer, attendees, agenda, purpose, and meeting materials) and all meetings are tracked and immediately rescheduled if canceled.
Coordinating and executing ambitious travel plans supporting the DEAC to enable senior leadership to maintain contact and presence with field personnel.
Coordinating requests for information and appointments, screening calls and directing inquiries to appropriate staff, consulting and collaborating with staff and program managers to identify areas requiring explanation or clarification.
Serving as assistant protocol officer and lead in developing and administering of plans for public appearances and social engagements for the executive senior leader.
Ensuring all activities, VIP and dignitary visits, and organizational and ceremonial events are conducted in an appropriate manner and in accordance with proper guidelines and etiquette.
Qualifications
Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Providing expert analysis and advice on complex program issues and based on operations, changing program requirements, and identifying relevant issues.
Serving as a principal scheduler in coordinating and preparing travel plans.
Creating briefing materials for executive leadership, consolidating meeting notes, and coordinating requests.
Participating in the development and implementation of new administrative management policies.
Serving as an advisor on administrative policies and overseeing the coordination of administrative activities.

You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 10/27/2023.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. If you do not meet the residency requirement and you have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two of the last five years, you may request an exception to determine if you are eligible for a residency waiver by meeting one or more of the following conditions:
Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military
A dependent who was authorized to accompany a federal civilian or member of the military who was working for the U.S. government
Participation in a study abroad program sponsored by a U.S. affiliated college or university
Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
