In the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Retirement and Disability Policy, conducts public policy analysis and assists in the management of projects and studies. Assists in overseeing task orders, as necessary. Assists in planing, managing, and coordinating special projects and policy initiatives and provides advice and assistance to senior researchers.
Duties
Performs quantitative and qualitative analysis of policy issues using appropriate research methodology and presents information and findings in analytical papers or provides input into reports and papers.
Researches and analyzes policy related problems and issues. Explores and evaluates pertinent background and other information and the overall impact of such mattes on the immediate, foreseeable and long-range interest of the Agency.
(CONT) Prepares and presents, or provides input for memoranda, briefings, and other material concerning the issues, findings, conclusions and proposed solutions.
Works with higher-level researchers on complex simulation models, in order to provide guidance on formulating highly relevant output data.
Prepares position papers and reports for higher-level officials.

To qualify for Social Science Research Analyst positions, applicants must possess one of the following:
A degree in behavioral or social science or related disciplines appropriate to the position. NOTE: Transcripts are required to substantiate education; OR
A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. NOTE: Transcripts are required to substantiate education; OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED TO SUBSTANTIATE POSSESSION OF QUALIFYING EDUCATION. All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. In addition to the requirements listed above, applicants must qualify for the posted grade level(s). To qualify for the GS-11, applicants must also possess one of the following:
A Masters or equivalent graduate degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. NOTE: Transcripts are required to substantiate education; OR
52 weeks of specialized experience at the Federal GS-9 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience must include at least two of the following: (a) analyzing survey or administrative data using a statistical software package such as SAS, Stata, Python, or R, (b) analyzing the effects of policies on income, work, or economic well-being measures, (c) producing written research products for academic or general audiences, (d) conducting quantitative or qualitative research on communities or populations served by government income or health programs.
In addition to the requirements listed above, applicants must qualify for the posted grade level(s).To qualify for the GS-12, applicants must also possess one of the following:
A PH.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a behavioral or social science. NOTE: Transcripts are required to substantiate education; OR
Must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the Federal GS-11 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience must include at least three of the following:(a) analyzing survey or administrative data using a statistical software package such as SAS, Stata, Python, or R, (b) analyzing the effects of policies on income, work, or economic well-being measures, (c) producing written research products for academic or general audiences, (d) conducting quantitative or qualitative research on communities or populations served by government income or health programs.
