Duties
Joining U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Information and Technology (OIT) will allow you to use your expertise in Information Technology (IT) principles, concepts and methods to support IT systems and services. This position starts at a salary of $132,368.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $172,075.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $172,075.00 (GS-14 Step 10).

In this Lead Information Technology Specialist position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals by serving as a team leader and advisor to management regarding evolving technologies. Typical work assignments include:
Assisting the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, providing advice on work methods, practices and procedures, and assisting the team and/or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution.
Leading the team in identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established workflow, skill level, and/or occupational specialization; as well as making adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established priorities to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks.
Monitoring and reporting on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that the supervisor's instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met.
Reporting to the supervisor periodically on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, progress in mastering tasks and work processes, and individual and team training needs.
Qualifications
Basic Requirement: Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
Along with the four competencies listed above you must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience described below to qualify based on experience.
Experience: You qualify for the GS14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Leading a team of specialists in the delivery of a variety of customer support services to local organizations dependent upon IT systems for the delivery of vital program service and providing expert advice, assistance, support and recommendations to the customers.
Leading a team of specialists in the delivery of a variety of customer and network support services and proficient in leading project management principles and methods sufficient to identify.
Defining business or technical requirements applied to the design, development, implementation, management, and support of systems and networks.
Applying network systems design, development, testing, installation, operations, management and maintenance concepts and methods sufficient to providing network services that support business requirements.
Applying methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying and improving IT systems and solving complex IT problems.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military

Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment.
