Duties
Knowledge of methods and procedures in the manufacturing and development of prototypes.
Knowledge in welding operations such as arc welding, MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding, TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding, or LASER welding to join metal components.
Ability to read drawing packages and produce correct physical assemblies, which may include new designs, design refinement, modification, and working with engineers.
Ability to complete complex assignments related to the fabrication and/or modification of highly complex mechanical assemblies and systems.
Collect and analyze production data, engineering drawings, specifications, standards, and technical publications and reports.
Present briefings in multiple forums, both inside and outside the C5ISR Center.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement up to 25% of the time.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a three-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This is a Term position scheduled Not to Exceed 6 Years.
Qualifications
The C5ISR Center is soliciting candidates to serve as an Engineering Technician within the Fabrication & Integration Branch-North, Ground Integration & Engineering Division.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade or band is required. It is defined as one year of specialized experience equivalent to the DE-02 pay band (GS-11 level) in the Federal Service which includes experience in one or more of the following: 1) Skills in the fabrication of research and development prototypes; 2) Implementing improvements/modifications to engineering work methods, approaches, and/or procedures; and 3) Analyzing data from a variety of sources (i.e. drawings, specifications, maintenance records etc.) to develop solutions.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
