Duties

Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately 11 and half months, and you will be in a non-pay status from June 16th- June 29th (PP14). This position is located in a National Park Service Unit. The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Incumbent utilizes journeyman knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. All of the duties described by this position may not exist in each location, but that should not preclude use of this position. Constructs, alters, modifies or repairs a wide range of features in buildings, quarters and other facilities. Constructs storage areas, workrooms, and offices within existing buildings including framework, rafters, joists, insulation, sheet rock, paneling, doors, windows, and flooring. Builds small structures and replaces deteriorated sections of existing structures. Constructs interior and exterior stairs. Installs exterior siding and roofing. Installs interior and exterior trim materials. Constructs and installs cabinets and builds countertops utilizing formica or wood. Installs floor coverings such as tile, linoleum, and carpet. Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers, and lay out of such things as angles, arcs, and circles. Lays sewer tile, replaces stools, lavatories; and replaces pumps and water meters. From oral instructions, blueprints, work orders, and rough sketches, incumbent plans and lays out masonry work, selects the proper tools, determines materials to be used, and accomplishes the work in accordance with appropriate methods and accepted trade practices with no technical assistance. Performs painting duties with little oversight and/or review of work during progress or upon completion.
