About the Position: This position is located at United States Army Garrison Installation Legal Office within the U.S. Army Installation Management Command at Fort Eisenhower. The incumbent serves as a Paralegal Specialist within the Military Justice Division, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate (OSJA). Fort Eisenhower is located in Augusta, Georgia, home to the Masters Golf Tournament and the Cyber Center.

Duties

Directly works with crime victims and/or witnesses of violations of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) or other criminal statutes. Provides authoritative advice and guidance to program coordinators and senior staff members. Ensures provisions of the program are publicized to agencies providing such services. Prepares annual cumulative reports for the Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) on the number of clients who received pertinent Department of Defense (DOD) informational forms. Provides advice to senior level officials concerning the technical processing of administrative elimination actions and discharge actions for officers and enlisted personnel. Prepares memoranda of reprimand documents for signature by senior officials and ensures accuracy and timely dissemination as required.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Temporary duty (TDY) business travel may be required approximately 5% of the time.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1. Managing and facilitating a victim and witness assistance program; 2. Working with customers to facilitate criminal prosecutions; 3. Liaising with organizations to provide aid and resources; AND 4. Providing paralegal and administrative support functions concerning the preparation of pre-trial actions and documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. [remove LL.B or J.D., if unrelated] in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as paralegal studies or legal studies. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
