You will serve as an Interdisciplinary Engineer/Scientist in the Weapons and Energetics Department of NAVAIRWARCENWPNDIV CHINA LAKE.

Duties

You will provide overall technical leadership for system level performance and capabilities, emerging technologies applicable to the design, capability and gaps through evaluation and review of studies, analysis, and collaboration. You will work with the CHENG to assess and understand existing processes, products, capability shortfalls, budget constraints and staffing requirements. You will pursue program-specific opportunities to increase capability, reduce time and cost, with direct or indirect benefit to increased readiness. You will Work with CHENG to establish program analysis priorities, mentor team members, and work with other TPOs to share knowledge, collaborate, and combine analysis tools and processes wherever possible across the NAWCWD weapons portfolio.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position requires travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12/13) or pay band (DP-04) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector in order to perform the duties of an Interdisciplinary General Engineer/Physicist. Specialized experiences must include duties related to the following: (1) Performing work related to modeling and simulation, data management and analysis, project management, design of experiments, and verification and validation; (2) Communicating across multiple locations and teams, developing current and future engineers; (3) Leading a diverse technical team, including ability to resolve conflict and negotiate technical trade-offs between multiple disciplines; and (4) Negotiating appropriate staffing and technical support levels with multiple competencies and groups. 0801 Series:
Successful completion of a degree in Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
A combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:

1310 Series:
Successful completion of a degree in physics or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
OR
A combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
