You will serve as an Electrician in the Facilities Maintenance Service (FMS), at American Lake VA Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Read, interpret, and update blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics and operation and maintenance manuals.
Use of electrical test instruments to trace and locate the cause of equipment and control device malfunctions and then complete repairs or adjustments.
You may be required to splice high voltage (5KV) cables.
Troubleshoot, maintain and repair all electrical equipment including transformers, feeders, motors, generators, starters, overload and over current protectors and controllers.
Troubleshoot and maintain electric and electronic control circuits on various equipment including laundry equipment, dietetic equipment, rotary files, water pumps, fire alarm system, tray conveyors, and incinerators.
Operate, troubleshoot, repair, inspect and maintain EPSS (emergency power supply system) engine generators and controls.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Specialized experience includes applicants who can demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and abilities in reading and following basic wiring diagrams; using the wiring diagram to perform the repair or installation to be made; testing, repairing and overhauling a variety of electrical equipment and small appliances such as electric motors, generators, alternators, transformers, lighting fixtures, relays, and power control panels.

Physical Requirements:
Work from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic work _platforms. Work in portions of the electrical systems requiring attention that are in cramped, dirty, and hard-to-reach locations. Work involves prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, will be required to lift and carry over 50 pounds.
Work safely in areas where certain potentially harmful physical or chemical agents are present such as in research labs.
Operates scissor lifts, boom lifts.
Create dust barriers to maintain a clean hospital and research lab environment.
Working Conditions: Electricians are exposed to a variety of weather conditions, both in winter and summer, in making repairs and installations on exterior work sites. During emergency repairs, extremes of bad weather are sometimes present. Many work sites are hot, dirty, dusty, greasy, poorly lit, cramped and with unpleasant orders. Required to work in the vicinity of asbestos containing materials on occasion. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
