Duties

If selected for this position, you will work in the Central Services Section of the Victim Witness Assistance Unit for the United States Attorney's Office in the District of Columbia which provides services to victims and witnesses while involved with the criminal justice system. Typical work assignments will include: -Coordinating travel and lodging for witnesses, both domestic and international. -Providing program direction and guidance to management officials and employees in order to implement effective protocols. -Preparing budget justifications concerning resources and staffing requirements. -Developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidelines, and systems for all victim and witness support services. -Managing, coordinating, evaluating, and assessing the day-to-day activities of the section. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

• You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
• You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
• If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
• Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

To be qualified for the GS-11 Victim Witness Service Coordinator, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal Service; or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related; or a combination of specialized experience and education. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience is defined as utilizing knowledge of victim's rights and skills in communicating to advocate for victims/witnesses. Examples of specialized experience may include the following: coordinating services and assistance to victims and witnesses, to include transportation, lodging, language interpreters and referrals for required services; communicating with victims, witnesses, AUSA's, legal support staff to provide direction, guidance and updates to management officials; managing payment and processing of victim/witness vouchers; and developing and disseminating information pertaining to the victim rights and services provided. OR Education: a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combining Education and Experience: a combination of specialized experience and education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years.
