This position functions as the Laundry Supervisor for the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center and is located within the office of Environmental Management Services (EMS). The primary responsibilities of the Laundry Supervisor are to oversee the distribution of over 775,000 pounds of clean laundry annually, manage employee uniforms for over 2000 employees, and oversee the Patient Assistance Program (Lost and Found).

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include: Responsibility for making operational decisions affecting policy, production, distribution and personnel activities. Assisting in the planning and implementation of standards-governing workflow, production, plant safety and sanitation, quantity and quality controls, equipment maintenance and personnel management. Continuously reviewing operations to identify training needs. Assisting in formulating training plans and conducting classes in all areas of Department Medical Center policies. Participating in conducting regular employee meetings. Responsible for the total operation of this section including completing and rating employee appraisals, leave approval, work performed, methods, quality and quality of work. Supervising collection of soiled linen and delivery of clean linen. Responsible for counseling and recommends disciplinary action or awards or praise as necessary or warranted. Driving the laundry distribution truck. Performing other related laundry/housekeeping duties as assigned. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Work is generally performed indoors where light and ventilation are adequate. May be exposed to contagious, noise, steam and minor cuts or bruises when working in the plant or with equipment. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements.
