This position functions as the Laundry Supervisor for the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center and is located within the office of Environmental Management Services (EMS). The primary responsibilities of the Laundry Supervisor are to oversee the distribution of over 775,000 pounds of clean laundry annually, manage employee uniforms for over 2000 employees, and oversee the Patient Assistance Program (Lost and Found).

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: Prepares and review position descriptions Prepares performance plans Prepare and reviews short and long-range goals Reviews the contractor's performance to ensure compliance with contract specifications. Directs and coordinates the work of subordinates in assuring that there is a proper workflow through distribution unit, so that adequate clean linen and uniforms are available to support support direct patient care activities. Produces reports such as AMIS, staffing guidelines, laundry production, inventory reports, budget documentation, equipment surveys, etc. Responsible for the purchasing of linen and supplies. Directly coordinates linen requirements and quotes based on needs and usage. Planning and observing the work to be accomplished and make assignments of equipment and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Coordinates equipment maintenance and repairs. Ensuring all employees are knowledgeable of and comply with safety rules, and all employees receive pertinent, required safety training and that safety program requirements are met. Plans distribution schedules and assures that necessary supplies and operation equipment are available and utilized to meet varying daily workload demands in the production of high-quality linen, uniforms, and patients' personal clothing items. Inspecting equipment to ensure a safe and efficient operation in the wash process and finish area while making minor repairs and adjustments to laundry equipment as needed. Assures accident reports are completed in a timely manner. Assures coworkers follow established safety procedures and utilize protective equipment. Responsible for a complete Textile Care Program, which includes linen management, uniform management, and patient effects. Insures accurate reporting of employee's time and attendance. Physical Requirements: Frequent maneuvering of heavy tubs and moving heavy chemical containers. Possible exposure to laundry and cleaning chemicals. Repeated bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, standing and walking continuously on cement surfaces required up to 7 hrs./day. Lifting and carrying up to 45lbs (and over with assist), hand over head pulling and reaching. Working Conditions: Work is generally performed indoors where light and ventilation are adequate. May be exposed to contagious, noise, steam and minor cuts or bruises when working in the plant or with equipment.
