About the Position: The primary purpose of this position is: to manage a large Military Medical Center's records section to include coding of inpatient and Ambulatory Procedure Visits (APV) record, management of medical transcription, other related medical record functions. Provide oversight for outpatient record documentation and coding of patients encounters and professional services provided on inpatient episodes.

Duties
Supervises Medical Records staff, oversees Medical Center's Instructions, guidance, and auditing related to medical records.
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the medical records program (to include paper and electronic media), ensuring that medical records administration complies with legal and regulatory requirements.
Establishes policies and procedures for accomplishment of medical records administration.
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
Serves as a member of various Medical Records Committees and primary Quality Assurance Evaluator for Medical Center's coding contracts.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement.
- Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Administrator (RHIA) is highly desired.
- This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
- Work may require travel away from the normal duty station. TDY 20%

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes managing the medical records programs for both inpatient and outpatient records; performing technically complex duties involved with auditing, analyzing, coding, and reviewing medical data and medical records; serving as a technical coordinator on all phases of coding; and making administrative decisions directly afecting the care of medical records programs.
