This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as an Electronics Technician specializing in electronic and electrical systems and components at a large area office with support also provided to other field sites throughout the Chicago District.
Duties
Tune, align, calibrate, fabricate, modify, operate, troubleshoot ,repair and test a variety of electronic and electrical systems.
Responsible for maintaining and repairing facility Electronic Security System (ESS).
Install, repair, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and overhaul, a variety of complex electronic equipment.
Utilizes data systems consisting of navigation locks, dams, and hydroelectric power plant operating equipment, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems and components.
Conducts inspections and evaluations as required in order to ascertain individual organizations compliance with the applicable DOD, DA, local command policy and regulations.
Determine methods and techniques required to accomplish tasks and solve moderately complex electronic circuitry problems.
Improvise changes in techniques and procedures to reach specified parameters when aging of components or modification have changed operating conditions.
Provide input regarding equipment selection, installation, scheduling, testing, and modifications to insure compatibility with existing equipment and systems operational requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Occasional travel is required (20-40%)
- The incumbent of the position must obtain and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator’s license prior to appointment.
- A pre-employment physical is required due to the physical and working conditions of the position.
Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level which includes knowledge of electronic theories and converting theoretical ideas into practical applications; skills of working with programmable logic controllers (PLC), ladder logic, I/O modules, an industrial human machine interface (HMI, Panelview), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), fire alarm systems, electronic intrusion detection system, access control system, CCTV type technologies, Operating Systems, variable frequency drives lead/lag motor starters, Ethernet/IP, relays, 3-wire ungrounded systems, and controls equipment typical of industry or typical of work performed.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-10).
