The Marriage and Family Therapist (Advanced) provides clinical services, as assigned in Mental Health Substance Use Disorder Services at the Veterans Health Care System of Ozarks and exercises full professional responsibility to provide effective services.

2023 VHA Total Reward$ of an Allied Health VA Career Brochure.pdf Duties for all Licensed Independent Providers for Substance Use Disorder Services (outpatient, intensive outpatient, and residential rehabilitation treatment programs/services): Function as a licensed independent provider with growing competence in treatment of Substance Use Disorder and the often comorbid mental health conditions. Conduct full Bio-psycho-social assessments and treatment plans compliant with accreditation standards including appropriate mental health diagnoses in keeping with the most recent edition of the diagnostic and statistical manual for psychiatric disorders. Responsible for screening, responding, and completing consults for their service, assessing, treatment planning, clinical care provision, and discharge planning at an advanced practice level. Provide and maintain expertise regarding VA and community psychosocial resources. Participate in program development within their assigned programs including community outreach and community reintegration for Veteran and patients. Participate in tracking the care of Veterans as they move through the treatment process and be involved in measuring treatment outcomes through the use of VA approved measures. Collaboration, facilitation and treatment coordination with all relevant services and multidisciplinary staff assuring timely documentation, thorough treatment planning and effective professional communications. Responsible for participating in clinical program development and is constructively responsive and accountable to clinical program effectiveness, Veteran evaluation of services and takes initiative to modify service patterns as needed. Partners with local universities, community colleges, and other agencies to improve the delivery of mental health services and maximize resources, engagement and utilization. Demonstrates the ability to teach and mentor staff and students in the special area of practice and to provide supervision for licensure or specialty certifications. Responsible for the independent planning and provision of treatment services for those veterans assigned to his or her case-management. Independently identifies high-risk patients and provides safety planning, crisis intervention, recurrent clinically indicated measures. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST (Advanced) must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). Education: Candidates must meet one of the following: Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a program approved by Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a MFT program from a regionally accredited institution. Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in a comparable mental health degree (Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, and Psychiatry) that meets the current VA qualification standard of that profession. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to MFT positions in the GS-0101 series in VHA must hold a full, current, and unrestricted MFT license to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a State. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Marriage and Family Therapist (Advanced), GS-12 Education, Experience and Licensure. Candidate must have successfully completed evidence based training in family therapy and must have graduated from a COAMFTE accredited program OR have passed the AMFTRE. Candidate must have at least five years of post-licensed clinical experience in delivery of family systems therapy including one-year equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. This experience must demonstrate the use of an evidence based family therapy model while exhibiting progressive professional competency and expertise. Assignments requiring responsibility for providing clinical supervision must have an AAMFT Approved Supervisor credential. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs listed below. Ability to provide specialized consultation for complex cases involving individuals, families and/or couples utilizing evidenced-based family systems theory/therapy. Ability to provide crisis intervention which includes assessment, safety planning and complex treatment planning using independent clinical judgment utilizing family systems theory/therapy. Ability to provide family systems therapy, which seeks to address Veterans and their family members on an individual level and deals with interpersonal interactions. Ability to provide unlicensed MFT staff/trainees with systemic clinical supervision towards licensure from a family systems theory/therapy perspective. Preferred Experience: Experience and interest in treating substance use disorder (SUD), SUD with challenging co-morbid conditions, and enjoys outpatient, residential care, and case management. References: VA Handbook 5005/101, Part II, Appendix G44. Marriage and Family Therapist Qualification Standard, GS-0182. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12. Physical Requirements: Work is performed in an office/clinic setting with minimal risks that requires normal safety precautions; the area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. However, the work environment requires someone with the ability to handle several tasks at once in sometimes stressful situations.
