Duties

Perform studies of complex scope utilizing data with respect to Geographic Information Systems (GIS); Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD); or other engineering-related applications. Prepare environmental or engineering design documents involving ecosystem restoration, flood reduction, navigation, coastal or shoreline protection, water supply, or other civil works program projects. Perform reviews of feasibility reports, technical studies, civil or environmental designs, plans, or specifications to ensure the selected documents have adequately considered the needs of stakeholders. Research or develop GIS techniques or procedures for analysis of engineering or environmental data. Reviews or modifies computer programs to solve unique problems. Develops contractual or in-house scopes of work.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Employee may be required to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Moderate lifting and carrying weights, extended standing, sitting, and bending may be required.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Physical Scientist 1301: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, geography, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Contracting/ProcurementEngineering and TechnologyGeographyProject Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
