This position is located at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System within Engineering Service. Incumbent performs duties of fully trained, experienced pipefitter/plumber. The work involves installing, modifying and repairing new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as steam heating, steam generation, and hydraulic systems, steam generators, flash and expansion tanks, condensate, vacuum, circulating pumps and radiators.

Duties

Major duties of this position include but are not limited to.... Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment (i.e. equipment such as steam heating, steam generation, and hydraulic systems, steam generators, flash and expansion tanks, condensate, vacuum, circulating pumps and radiators) Installs and modifies arid repair systems; sets up system routes, and places and cuts route openings Places hangers for proper pitch and elevation; determines and installs risers, flexible branches, expansion joints, pumps, gauges, and pressure regulators in the combination needed to support the pressure Installs and modifies piping and fitting for plumbing water systems, sewage waste, chemical systems, medical gas and vacuum systems, tire sprinkler systems and conditioned air systems Sets plumbing, fixtures (i.e. sinks, water closets, urinals, faucets, heads, etc.) Solders, brazes, welds, threads, and bends pipe All other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday-Friday,3:00pm - 11:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Pipefitter/PD12036A Physical Requirements: The work requires frequently handling heavy materials and parts weighing in excess of 45 pounds. The work also requires pulling, pushing, reaching, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, and climbing for sustained periods of time. Physical effort is often strenuous and is typical of industrial construction trades.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
