Located at the Oklahoma City VAMC, this position serves as a Pipefitter and performs duties of a fully trained and experienced pipefitter/plumber at a journeyman level with minimal supervision.
Duties
The major duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and sketches for various piping systems and equipment
Effectively uses tools such as dividers, chalk lines, plumbing tools, templates, core drillers, grinders, hand and power pipe threading machines, saws, cutters, pipe wrenches and various other hand tools
Possesses a thorough understanding of how to layout systems such as high-pressure piping systems, fire sprinkler systems, waste systems, heating and air conditioning systems and water systems
Have knowledge of how pressure relief valves, check valves, pressure regulators, expansion joints, steam traps, and other pressure supporting and controlling devices are installed and how they control and operate increases and decreases in pressure, flow, circulation, and expansion in systems
Have knowledge about medical gasses vacuum systems, and must know how the system works, and proper purging techniques; be proficient at brazing joints, and be able to properly use gauges and meters; and knows how to prevent a medical gas system from contamination
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Physical Requirements: The work requires frequently handling heavy materials and parts weighing in excess of 45 pounds. The work also requires pulling, pushing, reaching, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, and climbing for sustained periods of time. Physical effort is often strenuous and is typical of industrial construction trades
