The employee serves as a Motor Vehicle Operator/Laborer and is organizationally aligned under the Engineering Service line at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center located in Iron Mountain, Michigan.

Duties

Duties include but may not be limited to: Operates passenger vehicles, tractors, trucks (GVW 22,000 pounds), power equipment, snow removal equipment (GVW 17,000 pounds), and all other related equipment. Transports patients, both ambulatory and in a wheelchair. Operates passenger buses and follows scheduled routes or special runs from one location to another. Operates, maintains and repairs facility grounds equipment such as lawn mowers, push or tractor type, snow blowers and other related equipment. Operates plows, tractors and/or skid steer equipment with hydraulic attachments, salts and sands sidewalks, and moves snowbanks back with the frontend loader. Maintains responsibility for the overall appearance of the grounds which includes raking, cutting grass, trimming hedges, edging sidewalks and other seasonal gardening tasks. Measures and mixes sprays and dusts, specific amounts of fungicides, insecticides and herbicides by following instructions on the product label and on the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: May be exposed to extremes of hot and cold temperatures and all types of weather conditions while working outdoors. May be exposed to long hours of driving. Work will involve lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, climbing and working in cramped positions. Applicants must be able to perform the duties of a Motor Vehicle Operator/Laborer without more than normal supervision. Examples of experience include driving and maintaining all types of vehicles, such as passenger vehicles, tractors, trucks, power equipment, and snow removal equipment; transporting passengers; and performing grounds maintenance such as raking, planting, watering, etc. DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT (Screen Out): This position requires a current, valid state issued Commercial Driver's License with passenger and air brake endorsements. Applicants that do not possess this license will not be considered for this position. Do not upload a copy of your license. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
