About the Position: This position is located at Fort Novosel, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Novosel is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville. The geography and climate are ideal for year round military training. Recreation activities are abundant in the immediate and surrounding areas for family and fun.
Duties
Provide support to one or more military personnel programs, operations or functions including personnel manning, MOS/Medical Retention Board and reclassification, IPPS-A Operation, reassignments, student management, transition services and casualty.
Utilize personal computers and software to include IPERMS, IPPS-A and TRANSPROC to perform a variety of basic automated operations and functions related to military personnel operations.
Provide counseling and information to spouse of Army retirees, active duty and of terminally ill military personnel regarding benefits to which they may be entitled.
Maintain, update, and initiate actions pertaining to military personnel processing and services.
Distribute and ensure a balanced workload among a minimum of three subordinate employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization. Reviews subordinates assigned work.
Coordinate matters relating to Officer Candidate School, Warrant Officer Candidate School, hardship discharge, and Officer Resignations and soldier separation actions.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.

Specialized Experience for in service applicants with current or prior Federal Service: one year of specialized experience which includes reviewing others work, reviewing military personnel date, ensuring accuracy and completeness; examining a wide variety of military personnel records and forms to verify eligibility; utilizing automated military personnel database systems such as Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS), Real-Time Personnel Identification System (RAPIDS), Electronic Military Personnel Office (EMILPO), Enlisted Distribution Assignment System (EDAS), Total Officer Personnel Management Information System (TOPMISS II), or Army Training Requirements and Resource System (ATRRS), to review and update information; processing official documents for Active Duty, Retirees, Reserve/Guard, Foreign Military of Family members, such as ID Cards, military records or personnel actions; utilizing a wide variety of procedures, reports, and technical guides used in military personnel to provide advice and assistance on requirements for processing personnel records or actions and maintaining required files and reporting data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-05.

This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
