This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: to install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, align, calibrate, and rebuild integrated electronic systems, where the output of a number of sensor subsystems is integrated into a logic subsystem and the resultant used to modify the operation of the total system. This is an ART position. Duties: 1: Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds, aligns, and calibrates integrated ground or airborne electronics systems such as integrated communications access package (ICAP) Primary Components, Lightweight Multi band Satellite Terminals (LMST), Ground Mobile Forces (GMF) SATCOM, satellite, satellite wideband terminals, low angle point to point equipment, TROPO Satellite Support Radio)TSSR) radio, switching ,computer network, automatic test equipment, telephone, or secure communications systems 2: Sets up and operates software controlled automated test equipment to run established programs in various test modes to test and troubleshoot integrated systems. 3: Uses and maintains hand and power tools. 4: Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe a clean work environment. 5: Maintains inspections and maintenance records.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 - Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1: Knowledge of electronic theories and practices of one or more complex integrated systems such as satellite, communication switching, telephone, computer network or radio systems. Knowledge of integrated electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, optical, and mechanical systems. 2: Knowledge of such applications as radio, digital or analog computers, telephones, digital display devices, and of the technology and practices which integrate these components into a total functional system. Knowledge of mathematics including algebra and basic trigonometric functions. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 3: Skill in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuits and functions, and the interaction of subsystems which create malfunctions. Skill in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated systems to recognize the function and interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, connecting cable harnesses, etc. 4: Skill in the set up and operation of computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE) and test stands, oscilloscopes (dual trace, storage, digitized), spectrum, network, and distortion analyzers, frequency counters, and signal generators. Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and micro soldering units. 5: Ability to repair, align, and adjust major integrated electronic systems such as satellite communication systems, communication switching systems, or computer network systems. Ability to follow drawings for integrated electronic systems. 6: Ability to trace the effect of a change in one subsystem to other integrated subsystems and determine which controls and devices must be changed or adjusted to compensate. Ability to use computer terminals to maintain records and document actions. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: 1: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). 2: The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. 3: May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments; to work rotating shifts or uncommon tours of duty, subject to call back to meet emergency situations; and to possess a valid operator's license to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites. Also, may be required to obtain an appropriate clearance to perform the work in sensitive areas. 4: Information Assurance certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of duties. A waiver of this six-month requirement maybe granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Light to moderate physical exertion is required in lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds, and occasional objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods of time on concrete or composition floors. Climbing and working in high places (towers) may be required. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Employee typically works in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes performed at remote locations, or in aircraft, sometimes outside in inclement weather. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock; burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder; and cuts and bruises. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
