Serves as the Health Benefits Assistant in the Little Rock or North Little Rock Eligibility Center, Patient Eligibility and Intake Section of the Central Business Office. Attention to detail and strong customer service are mandatory for the duties involved in this position.
Duties
Interview applicants to help determine eligibility for healthcare entitlements.
Process request for Veterans Health Identification Cards.
Administer income assessments (means test).
Advise and Counsel Veterans and their beneficiaries or representatives of financial obligations, co-pay requirements and their rights to appeal.
Gather and enter data into Veterans Integrated Software Technology (VISTA)
Process claims for hardships, catastrophic disability.
Assist with outreach events at different locations to assist veterans in learning how to access VA healthcare benefits.
Maintain familiarity with public laws pertaining to Veterans benefits, state commitment laws, worker's compensation, humanitarian services, reimbursable insurance, third part billing, privacy act and release of information.
Knowledge of numerous and varied Medical Center services and general range functions
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 08:00a - 4:30p, subject to change based on the needs of the agency.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/26/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Experience where you were responsible for providing administrative support;
.Experience collecting, compiling and tracking data and information;
Skilled in processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records;
Experience performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics;
Experience answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Successful completion of four (4) years of education above high school in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Transcripts must be submitted at time of application. OR,
Combination: Successful completion of post high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level.

Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Work involves sitting, standing, and walking throughout the assigned unit and to adjoining units. Some light carrying of forms and/or medical records is required.
