In this position you will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years with safety, health, and life safety instructional and program development, leading team and committee implementation, hazard identification, training development and presentation, and management of programs especially Occupant Emergency Programs (aka Emergency Action Plans).

In this position, you will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist within the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, Environment, Safety & Health Division. Typical duties include:

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the IC-12 level (starting salary $94,199), you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-11 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the Federal or Private Sector and must demonstrate all of the following:  Implementing Safety Regulations (Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations), Fire/Life Safety Code Regulations (National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Regulations), and Occupant Emergency Program (OEP) guidelines (e.g., 41 CFR, Interagency Security Committee). Ensuring facilities have up-to-date occupant emergency written procedures and implemented program elements including exercises for evacuation, shelter-in-place, and other required drills.  Developing effective communication materials such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), guidance documents or training presentations. AND Individual Occupational Requirements: In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following requirement(s) to be considered qualified for the position: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. or Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. or Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Health Physicist (CHP), or similar certification that included successful completion of a written examination meets the requirements for GS-5.
