This position serves as the principal clerical and administrative support position in the immediate organizational unit in or for which the persons assisted have responsibility, by carrying out and coordinating all the clerical and day-to-day administrative support activities which are typically required to accomplish the work of the organization. The duties require knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures and requirements, various office skills, and the ability to apply such skills.
Duties
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Duties:
Provides clerical and administrative assistance to the organization.
Determines nature of call or business of visitors.
Prepares and reviews correspondence, reports, and other documents.
Reviews work prepared by other clerical staff.
Ensures correct grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and appropriate format in work prepared by self and others.
Returns documents needing correction to the originator when necessary.
Accurately summarizes information from files and documents when this requires recognizing which information is not relevant to the problem at hand.
Accurately composes non-technical correspondence on topics such as office procedures, requests for information, and letters of acknowledgement, commendation or notification on a manual or electric typewriter.
Makes all travel arrangements to include itineraries, airline, rental car, hotel reservations, preparation of travel orders and vouchers.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/24/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify for the GS-07 based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Operates standard office equipment such as typewriters, copiers, fax machines.
Identifies various problems and situations that affect the orderly and efficient flow of work.
Clarify first why the caller or visitor is in contact with the office and direct appropriately.
Independently note and follow-up on commitments made at meetings and conferences by staff members.
Composes letters, endorsements, messages, office instructions, and reports, with responsibility for sentence structure, grammar, and spelling
You may qualify for the GS-08 based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Coordinate the work of the office with the work of other offices, and for recognizing the need for such coordination in various circumstances.
Experience with timekeeping operations
Experience using a variety of computer programs such as Microsoft Suite, Adobe Pro, and other automated data processing functions.
Experience with correspondence management, such as correcting grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and appropriate format in work prepared by self and others.
Applies and adapts guidelines, such as regulations or the supervisor's policies, to specific problems for which the guidelines are not clearly applicable.
Proficiency Requirement: Applicants for this position must show possession of the following skill: 40 words per minute typing speed. Applicants may meet these requirements by self-certifying their proficiency. You should be aware your self-certification of possession of this skill is subject to evaluation and verification.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
